NPI's IT Spend Management Practice Posts Over 50 Percent Growth in 2011

Pricing disparity, strained IT budgets drive high demand for third-party sourcing assistance and objective benchmark data

ATLANTA -March 6, 2012 - NPI, a leading spend management consulting firm, today announced that its IT spend management practice grew by over 50 percent in 2011. The company attributes this growth to NPI's ability to deliver savings on nearly every IT purchase reviewed, continued lack of vendor pricing transparency and pressure on enterprises to do more with IT budgets.

In 2011, NPI reviewed thousands of IT purchases for industry-leading companies in all sectors, with particular focus on financial services, healthcare, retail and manufacturing. NPI's spend management consultants identified measurable savings on 86 percent of all client transactions reviewed, and provided independent verification that 14 percent of transactions were already at fair market value.

"Last year, NPI saw a fundamental shift in IT buying. In 2009 and 2010, buying centered on reducing costs. In 2011, it shifted to 'buying smart' so budgets could span more projects and deliver more value to the business," said Jon Winsett, CEO of NPI. "Companies have realized that IT spend management can give them a competitive advantage in the marketplace; and they've become hungry for objective, benchmark-oriented services that their IT sourcing teams can tap into."

IT and telecom purchasing has become increasingly complex over the last five years. Expanding demand, industry consolidation, application integration, compliance, and powerful trends such as mobility and cloud are impacting the way companies source IT and manage vendors. Best-in-class IT purchasing professionals are seeking ways to effectively navigate these complexities and make budgets go further. NPI's IT spend management consultants bring benchmark data and vendor-specific insights to the table to ensure companies pay fair market value for their IT purchases and avoid overspending pitfalls.

"Most of our clients are already savvy IT purchasers, but they don't drive big Microsoft, Oracle, Verizon or HP purchases every day - we do," Winsett said. "Billions of dollars of overspending can be eliminated at the transaction level. Unlike other spend management categories, the savings don't typically drop to the bottom line. Most clients are still going to spend 100 percent of their IT budgets - but they are going to get more for their investment."

Overall company growth across all of NPI's practices was over 20 percent in 2011. Although, according to Winsett: "Our IT practice was the shining star last year."
